Remove EXIF and metadata from images online

This free tool strips all metadata from your image files, including EXIF data, IPTC tags, XMP metadata, GPS location, camera information, timestamps, thumbnails and comments. It works with all common image formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, HEIC and more.

Why remove metadata?

Digital cameras and smartphones embed a lot of information into photos, including:

  • GPS coordinates – exact location where the photo was taken
  • Camera details – device model, lens, serial number
  • Date and time – when the photo was created or edited
  • Thumbnail images – sometimes containing the original uncropped image
  • Author information – photographer name, copyright info
  • Software history – editing tools and modification timestamps

Removing this data before sharing photos online helps protect your privacy and can also slightly reduce file size. While some social media platforms strip metadata automatically, many websites and messaging apps do not.

Options

  • Preserve ICC color profile – keeps the color profile embedded in the file, which ensures colors display correctly on color-managed devices. Recommended for most use cases.
  • Preserve orientation tag – keeps the EXIF orientation flag so the image continues to display in the correct rotation. Without this, some vertically-shot photos may appear sideways.

Not sure what metadata your file contains? Use our metadata viewer to inspect the full EXIF data before or after removal.
