Join & Split Text Lines Online

Converting a column of items into a single delimited sentence — or reversing the process by breaking a comma-separated string into separate lines — is one of the most frequent formatting tasks in office work and programming. The Join Lines tool executes these transformations seamlessly in both directions with any delimiter of your choice.

Two Flexible Operational Modes

  • Join Multiple Lines into One: Takes a vertical list of items (names, emails, numbers, IDs) and concatenates them into a single horizontal string joined by your chosen delimiter.
  • Split Delimited String into Lines: Takes inline lists separated by commas, semicolons, tabs, pipes, or custom words, and splits each item onto its own fresh line.

Supported Delimiters & Options

  • Comma & Space (, ): The standard format for written sentences, email recipient fields, and CSV data rows.
  • Semicolon (; ): Commonly used for Microsoft Outlook recipient lists and programming statements.
  • Pipe ( | ): Standard separator for Markdown tables, regular expression alternatives, and Unix pipeline arguments.
  • Custom Delimiter: Enter any custom symbol or string (e.g. ', ' for SQL queries or && for bash commands).
  • Trim Whitespace: Cleans up invisible leading and trailing spaces from each individual item before merging or splitting.
  • Skip Empty Lines: Prevents consecutive commas or double delimiters from appearing in your output.

Common Applications

  • SQL Database Queries: Transform a column of user IDs into a formatted IN (101, 102, 103) clause in seconds.
  • Email Marketing: Convert a spreadsheet column of email addresses into a single comma-separated bcc line for email dispatch.
  • Code Array Preparation: Quickly convert vertical word lists into comma-separated JavaScript, Python, or PHP arrays.
