What is Lorem Ipsum Dummy Text?
Lorem Ipsum has served as the printing and design industry's standard placeholder dummy text since the 1500s. An unknown typesetter took a galley of type and scrambled Latin passages to produce a specimen book showcasing typefaces, kerning, and layouts. Having survived five centuries of print, it seamlessly adapted to modern electronic publishing, UI/UX prototyping, and web design.
The passage originates from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil), a philosophical treatise written by Marcus Tullius Cicero in 45 BC.
Why Designers Use Placeholder Text
- Focus on Visual Hierarchy: When presenting design mockups, wireframes, or website templates, readable copy inevitably distracts clients and stakeholders into critiquing word choices rather than visual structure, typography scale, whitespace, and layout balance.
- Natural Letter Frequency: Unlike repeatedly duplicating "Content goes here content goes here", Lorem Ipsum offers a realistic distribution of word lengths and vowel-consonant frequencies that accurately mimics the rhythm of written English.
- Clean HTML Output: Generate text wrapped in
<p>paragraph tags or structured as<ul><li>bulleted lists ready to paste straight into your code editor or CMS template.
